Protect the Amazon Rainforest | Carmen Sandiego | Social Emotional Learning for Kids

Hey friends, Carmen Sandiego here. I’m on a new mission, traveling the globe, searching for kids who are helping their communities, overcoming obstacles and fighting for good. Fearless Kids Around the World. Today, we are traveling to South America and the country of Colombia, which is home to 49 million people. The capital city is Bogota and the official language is Spanish. Colombia and the neighboring countries are home to the Amazon, the world’s largest tropical rainforest. The trees soak up bad pollution and release healthy air. Our fearless kid is working to protect the environment in Colombia, and the future of our planet. Colombia is known as a megadiverse country. Which means it has one of the highest amounts of different animal and plant species in the world. For decades, air pollution caused by humans from things like cars and factories has been trapping heat in the Earth’s atmosphere, warming the Earth and causing our climate to change. The lawsuit was launched with the help pf a legal group called Dejusticia. They say that the Columbian government is not doing enough to stop pollution and deforestation in the Amazon, which is when large amounts of trees are cut down or burned. Tell me what democracy looks like, this is what democracy looks like. It’s a movement happening all over the world, young people are demanding that leaders protect the Earth for their generation. You say you love your children above all else and yet you are stealing their future in front of their very eyes. I stand before you today representing my entire generation. In 2018, the Colombian Supreme Court ruled that Pablo and the other young people were right. Great teamwork. You can be a fearless kid too. (mysterious music)
