Importance of Natural Resources

Art and Ecology – School Programs at the Humber Arboretum

[Ben whistling] So I’ve come to the Arboretum
from an art background and I really want to incorporate artistic exploration
as a means to explore ecology, and ecology as basically the
creative exploration of natural materials as a means to find knowledge about nature. And today we have
these high school kids who’ve come down and they want to make rafts,
and they’ve been learning about rivers, so I’ve been trying to incorporate ideas of art
and ecology to this raft making. So the Humber River is a river that’s starting
over here next to the Arboretum but is going to flow down all the way to
Lake Ontario. If their raft succeeds
it can be viewed by many people along the routes, whether driving, walking, what not.
